Summary

Few people are aware that Audrey Hepburn lived in Rome for more than twenty years, during the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s, when she was married to actor Mel Ferrer and then psychiatrist Andrea Dotti, with whom she had two children, Sean Ferrer and Luca Dotti, respectively. Audrey in Romeis a candid, intimate, collection of images hand-selected by Luca Dotti of the actress and much-imitated fashion icon during this time. The book is a treasure that every Audrey fan will yearn to have, for many of the nearly 200 photographs in this charming volume have been mostly unpublished, and all are personal in nature. The book is a private album of snapshots, showing Audrey in her everyday life as she strolls around the city, alone or with her family, arriving at or leaving the airport, and besieged by journalists at film premieres. The book also contains set photographs of the films Audrey made during the Rome years (Roman Holiday, War and Peace, The Nun's Story, Breakfast at Tiffany's) and of the famous clothes and accessories that helped create her distinctive style. The photographic story unfolds to illustrate Audrey's gradual transformation from remote Hollywood diva to an established actress in Italy, as well as a woman and mother who adopted Rome as her home after leaving the cinema in the 1970s. The book begins with an introduction by Dotti, which reveals the private side of his mother. On every page, renowned fashion stylist Sciascia Gambaccini comments on the photographs in terms of what would become Audrey's iconic style.
