Summary

This catalogue is published to coincide with a major travelling exhibition containing 100 works by Banksy -- the world’s most popular contemporary street artist -- which opens in a space on New York’s Bowery in late May 2022 before travelling nationwide for a two-year period.

Just in time for a major new exhibition focusing upon the enigmatic British artist known as Banksy, this catalogue showcases the 100 original works and objects on display. Banksy, whose real identity remains unknown despite dominating the global street art scene for over twenty-five years, has a massive following, and this impressive six-month event is expected to draw over 100,000 visitors to an exhibition space on New York City’s Lower East Side after which it will travel to four other US venues over a two year period.

The collection of works is an insightful survey of Banksy’s varied output over the past twenty years complete with iconic works such as Girl with Balloon, Love is in the Air (Flower Thrower), Bomb Love, Gangsta Rat, Monkey Queen, and others. Banksy is known for imagery that is simple but not elementary and is laced with caustic and critical messages that examine capitalism, war, social control, freedom, and the paradoxes of our time.

After having been shown at Basel, Parma, and Lugano to critical acclaim, the North American tour will run for two years, opening in New York before traveling to Orlando, Washington D.C., Texas, and Denver.
