Summary
Chinese fortune-telling is based on chance and the abandonment of all attempts to control the future. One of the traditional ways of seeking advice is to consult the ancient gods and goddesses through divination sticks. Each individually numbered stick is placed in a holy container marked with the Chinese character for spiritual blessing. After addressing the question to heaven, the seeker holds the container in both hands and shakes the divination sticks until one falls out. Then, the corresponding numbered poem and its interpretations are consulted, and the guidance from the gods and goddesses is offered.
