The story of the USS Bennington (Gunboat PG 4) and the only officer killed when it exploded on July 21, 1905 in San Diego Harbor. Written by the grandniece of Ensign Perry. Profusely illustrated with period photos and newspaper articles, as well as present day images. Includes tribute to the USS Newman K. Perry (DD 883) commissioned in 1945. Also covers present day memorial efforts to honor the sailors of the Bennington, who perished that fateful day, many of whom were buried on Point Loma not far from the scene of the disaster.
