Summary
Excerpts
Seton was an expert wolf killer through his experience with the timber wolves of Canada. The New Mexico cowboys, skeptical of the very concept of a Canadian wolf trapper, at first had their suspicions confirmed by his inability to catch much besides dogs and coyotes. They took note, however, when he dressed in stinking clothes and blood-covered gloves. This method of wolf trapping (reducing the human smell associated with traps and baits) was unknown to them. As always, Seton would spare no effort to be as good as his word, no matter what it cost him. Whether moved by professional ambition in the city or by a need to explore, riding off alone into wild, dangerous country he had never seen before, he came at life with a fearlessness matched by few except the wolves he hunted.
