Summary

The Quickening is a newly translated collection of stirring poems by the renowned nineteenth-century poetess Táhirih; that deal with a subject that has challenged religious scholars throughout the ages. Among the world religions, no theme has attracted more attention or caused more controversy than the concept of a last judgment or end of time. The Bahá'í view of the ôResurrection,ö or the ôQuickening,ö as the term is translated here, stands in bold contrast to many traditional views. It is seen as a prelude to a glorious outcome-the galvanizing of our collective will to bring about a just and lasting peace and the unification of humankind. In addition to the beautifully crafted English translation of Táhirih's poems, this volume also includes her work in the original Persian and Arabic. Book jacket.
