Summary

While researching trails for the third edition of his popular North Carolina Hiking Trails, Allen de Hart noticed a significant increase in urban trails. This inspired de Hart to produce separate books which emphasize the trails found in the state's metropolitan areas. Covering areas within a radius of sixty miles, these two books detail the vast variety of trails available. The trails may be for foot travel only or for multi-usage by pedestrians, bikers, and equestrians. Trail distances range for short trails such as the 0.2-mile Lassiter's Mill Trail to the 23.4-mile Falls Lake Trail. The variety of trail treadway ranges from natural earth to asphalt. some trails travel through residential areas while others cover the remote countryside. Whether you want to saunter, walk, jog, run, bike, skate, or push a baby stroller, there are trails for you in these guides. The Piedmont Triad region contains the countries of Guilford, Forsyth, Alamance, Caswell, Davie, Davidson, Montgomery, Randolph, Rockingham, Stokes, Surry, and Yadkin. Included with the urban trails are trails for Boone's Cave, Hanging Rock, Morrow Mountain, and Pilot Mountain state parks, Uwharrie National Forest, and Guilford Courthouse National Military park.
